I've heard them compared to Pizzicato Five but personally I feel that Capsule had a more consistent and fully-realized sound than that band did. Of the Shibuya-Kei artists of the late 90's-early 00's, Capsule's music was among the most appealing for both its sincere lightheartedness and excellent arrangements/production. A series of singles released in 2021, CAPSULE's first work after a hiatus of six years, point towards a new synthwave-inspired electropop sound. After the name capitalization change, CAPSULE released two albums, one of electronica (2013's Caps Lock) and one of big room EDM (2015's Wave Runner), both sizable shifts in the group's sound. Their 7th album Fruits Clipper marked a noticable shift towards electropop, with a gradual shift to electro house by the time of their 10th album, 2008's More! More! More!. Though their debut album ハイカラ ガール fit into the adult contemporary genre, their 2nd album Cutie Cinema Replay pushed capsule into the Shibuya-kei sound, marked by samples/emulation of the 60s mod sound. In 2003, Yasutaka created his own label Contemode, and has produced other artists on the label. They debuted in 2001, when their their first single was released by Yamaha Music. Capsule, stylised as "capsule" on earlier releases and as "CAPSULE" from 2013, is a Japanese duo formed by Yasutaka Nakata (co-producer, art director, responsible for all lyrics and music) and Toshiko Koshijima (vocals). ![]()
